Filtration

Filtration is used for purifying drinking water, treating wastewater, pre-irrigation, and cleaning swimming pools. There are three types:

  1. Slow Filtration: Used in drinking water treatment, where water is filtered slowly through a sand bed, removing suspended matter through physical, chemical, and biological processes.

  2. Rapid Filtration: Water is quickly filtered through a sand layer to remove particles. The filter can operate by gravity or pressure and requires periodic backwashing to prevent clogging.

  3. Multi-Layer Filtration: Water passes through multiple layers of different-sized grains, with larger, less dense grains on top and smaller, denser grains below.

Treatments:

  • Anti-corrosion:
    • External Filter: Sandblasting to Sa 2½” standard, two coats of epoxy tar.
    • Internal Filter: Sandblasting to Sa 2, chlorinated rubber primer, two coats of chlorinated rubber finish.

Inspection and Maintenance:

  • Regular checks and lubrication of fans, pumps, silencers, and filters.
  • Inspect fan bearings and perform acoustic checks.
  • Check pulleys, belts, and motor couplings.
  • Ensure the machine is switched off and locked during maintenance.
